Ha + Tha Yoga
Ha + Tha Yoga
The universe in which we reside is comprised of opposing forces. These oppositions permeate our life in all areas of existence, such as day and night, male and female, right and left, birth and death. In the tradition of Yoga, Ha and Tha represent these two counter-qualities originating from the same source. Traditionally Ha quality corresponds to light, sun, activity, maleness, whereas Tha quality corresponds to dark, moon, passivity, and femaleness. Any exercises designed to overcome personal weaknesses require effort, expression of will and the Ha quality, whereas any exercises related to the relaxation of the body, senses, and the mind imply loss of will and Tha quality.
Each lesson of Ha+Tha yoga course consists of an hour of Ha style yoga practice - dynamic flow (vinyasa) and strengthening and toning asanas, followed by one hour of Tha style yoga - static asanas for stretching and releasing, 15-20 minute session of Yoga Nidra and short pranayama practice at the end. Differentiating between Ha- and Tha- styles and developing abilities required in the practice of both styles will allow you to make a conscious choice of the most beneficial method or most balanced combination of both at any particular time. However, please have in mind that the principles of Ha and Tha, meaning effort and ease, are being applied at all times despite of the chosen style. In the practice of Hatha yoga, we always seek balance between these two forces. The goal is to achieve harmony of active (male) and passive (female) energies and to bring our body, mind, and spirit into balance.
It is possible to come for just Tha practice but not for Ha part only.
All levels welcome.
